SPDSS37 - Capture Life

I've got two posts today so please look around - you never know what's on the next post - there might just be some blog candy waiting for you!

Are you ready to start your day with a little sweetness?   Here's the weekly Sugar Sketch from Sugar Pea Designs!   We provide a new sketch every week, but draw one winner every month.    You can play one of the sketches, or all of the sketches to enter for the monthly prize.   The winner is selected at random so the more sketches you join us in the better your chance of winning the monthly prize.  And that monthly prize is a jaw dropper - a $75 gift certificate!!

We really try to mix up all the sketches so there is a little something for everybody.  This one seems to be just for me ! I love all the layers making this one perfect for mixing and matching some patterned paper.

A little tip for you if patterned paper makes you a little nervous - especially mixing lots of patterns.  I usually never mix more than 3 different papers.  If things are looking too busy, or blend together, add a strip of solid card stock to break things up.  Notice the strip of navy down the center of the design?  That makes it easier to see the two different patterns without them eating each other.
The paper companies have taken lots of the guess work out of mixing too.  If you have a double sided sheet the front and back will always match.  Papers from the same collection always work well together because they have the same color scheme, and notice that there is usually another pattern from the collection printed on the margin of each page/sheet.  These are always complimentary.

I'm playing with the Wanderlust stamp set.   I stamped the compass on ivory paper and it looked a little flat so I decided to go back in and stamp a repeating sentiment of "Enjoy the Ride" over it.  It added more color and give the compass a more finished look.
The center panel is popped up on adhesive foam tape.  I stuck a few elements partially behind the raised bits so you could see the contrast.   I cut the typeprint paper with the Zig Zag Stitched Rectangles - if you look close you can see the pretty zig zag emboss on the outer edges.
Ready to see what the rest of the team made?  You can see their projects as well as get all the details on how to link up your projects here at the Sugar Pea Designs Challenge!

Before you go - please leave me a comment.  If you're a fan of Sugar Pear Designs maybe you will want a chance to win this  Polaroid Journal Card die set valued at $22.95?  You have until Jan 26 to leave me a comment.  I'll pick one random comment and post it on my blog on Jan 27!  Good luck!

Hi Jeanne, I'm laughing about hungry patterned papers LOL. Was going to leave you a comment anyway cos I love that compass topper stamped in pink. There's no way I would try and put those different patterned papers together but it looks great. Thanks for the tips and inspiration. Love that die. Everything crossed. You know 2016 is the year of small miracles....... Hugz

Jeanne, your tips/techniques with patterned paper are appreciated and, as you've shown time and again, fantastic! I have plenty of paper pads, sitting neglected, because my pairing attempts are pa-thet-ic! The 'strip' to eliminate hungry paper consumption: brilliant! Need to start paying very close attention to your arrangements. Your card: so lovely! You've created a perfect setting for the fabulous compass...
