12 Kits of Occasions is Out of This World!

Thanks for stopping by! There's so much going on today so I hope you take a look around. It's the last day of the month and you know what that means right? It's time for The 12 Kits of Occasions! The 12 Kits is a group of 12 friends who all love to paper craft. Every month we take turns providing a kit for the rest of the group. On the last day of the month we reveal what we made with the kit and share our designs. It's fun to see how our designs are the same or very different!

I am so excited to share that I am the host this month and I put together a kit that's just Out of this World! Everything in the kit has an "outer space" theme. There's Starshine papers from American Crafts and stamped images from Altenew, My Favorite Things, Reverse Confetti and Paper Smooches. I knew I wanted to try some different techniques for backgrounds so I included some watercolor, and bristol papers too.  Here's a little peek at the kit!

Whenever I receive a kit in the mail I place all the ingredients in a tray.  I mix and match elements - always trying to focus on what's in the kit.  When it's all over I look at what's left and call that my little "trixie".  I put this kit together so there shouldn't be anything I didn't work with.. but if I had to tell you to watch for one element this time it would be the Space Needle die cut.  Yes.. I know this is a Seattle landmark, but is sure looks like its from another world so I added it to the kit.  I think it would look right at home in any futuristic city!    Her'es a peek at the kit...

I invited a special friend - Richard Breaks - That's MISTER Cardmaker to you! to play along - he's been my guest since my very first kit and I am so happy he keeps coming back for more. Thanks for helping me choose a theme Richard!

We know the kit is more fun when YOU can play along too so we are gifting a kit every month. I couldn't resist having more than one prizes - so for this kit we have three lucky winners joining us!

This was the first card I made with the kit - I kept the card close to my work area to remind me to have fun with this - no stress LOL (I always panic a little when it's my turn to make the kit - worrying that it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

And all the rest came together easy peasy!  I hope the rest of the team agrees!

Want to see more cards made with this fun kit?  Head on over to The 12 Kits of Occasions Blog where you'll find a sample and link to each of the designers playing along today!   You might just win yourself a kit to join us too!

12 Kits of Occasions - December

Thanks for stopping by! Sorry I'm a little late! I'm posting today for the 12 Kits of Occasions! We're a group of 12 friends who all like to papercraft. Every month we take turns making a kit for the rest of the group. We all get the same things and on the last day of the month we reveal what we made with the kit.  We're posting early today so we can all enjoy the New Year's festivities with family and friends.  I haven't been around much.. most of the family had a bad stomach flu and I confess I spent about 3 days in bed.  I'm feeling good today and happy to be with the living! LOL!

Here's a peek at our beautiful kit this month!  Our hostess is Jessica Davis of the Paper Parade Blog.  I can't say enough nice things about Jessica - she's done so many nice things for me.  Let's just say that a better friend you just couldn't have - she has a heart of gold!

Her kit this month was a wonderful mix of ELEGANT black, white and gold foil accented papers (that I had to convince myself to not hoard), glittery die cuts, and lots of cute and cuddly critters to play with.   There was even metallic accents (twine and sequins) and wood veneers.  I always tell you to look out for something that I think was a "tricky" element.   There was one this time when I looked at my tray of "what was left".  There were a few clear buttons that I just didn't get around to using so I'm going to be on the lookout for those when I go to visit the rest of the group.

I got 6 cards made and probably could have done more .. so let's get started!

Lots of fun right?  Want to see what the rest of the team made?  Just click on their names below or why not hop on over to The 12 Kits of Occasions Blog where we have a sample by each of the designers.

Halloween Scrapbook Album

What a surprise for you today! I bet you didn't know I could scrapbook! LOL! I volunteered to make a mini Halloween album for my Twinery post today. After I was a few pages in I started to wonder what I got myself into. This was time consuming - each page a mini work of art - but now that it's finished I'm glad I took the time.

I have lots of pictures so grab a cuppa and let me take you on a trip. All my photos were taken by the parents of my daughter's best friend. They were kind enough to take her to one of their favorite places this time of year. I knew I had to document this so they could remember all the fun they had!

I love this pumpkin shaped album from Top Dog Dies.  It comes with a "finishers" die set that includes variations on the Jack O Lantern Face and other accessories. I used the Leaves Die set for my pumpkin - the solid honeydew Twinery Twine makes lovely tendrils for the pumpkin leaves.

This was a simple album to make. I started with scraps of cardboard - you know those pieces you can't part with - like from the back of a stack pads. Using a glue stick I adhered pattern paper to the front and back of the cardboard. Next I die cut the pumpkin album shape, and then punched holes for the jump rings. I inked up all the edges of all the pages to cover the cardboard edges and soften it up.
All the dies on my project are from Top Dog Dies. I like starting an album with the details of the trip - this is a good place for a ticket stub or a journaling card - who what where when why. I attached a little tag wrapped with Mandarin Twine. The button was easy to thread on the twine - just move it along until you like where it's placed. I think it looks like shiny candy! I also threaded the tag with several strands of Lilac Twine to make it extra foofy.

I added a little banner to this page with Charcoal Twine. Instead of leaving the ends loose I decided to attach one end to a spider with googly eyes!   The scallop border is from Borders #2 die set, and the spider?  From spiders of course!  It comes with several of the little guys with a spider web.

I added a few photos I grabbed from the farm web site to add to the album. This helps set the scene when they look back at this album.

For this page I added a few bitty spiders hanging from Charcoal Twinery Twine.  The spiders are from the Witch die set and the web from the Spiders set I mentioned.

I punched a few holes along the outside edge of the album and threaded some colorful twine through the holes - Marigold, Mandarin and Charcoal.
Because the holes are through the entire page you can see the pretty twine on the front and back of the page.

This is the spinning honeypot ride! Looks like fun right?   I added some die cut Ghosts.
For the moon over my haunted house I glued Marigold twine in a circular shape. The center of the circle was misshaped - not a perfect circle so I topped it with a die cut bat.

I don't see any mistakes do you? LOL! I was originally going to put a little button in the center, but I think the bat looks great!
I punched two holes in this page so I could make a little border of Mandarin Twine to tuck my photo in.

This simple twine tied bow button makes another great embellishment for tucking into a corner to mount your photo.
Because the holes were cut through the entire page I can decorate both sides of the page. Instead of mounting photos on this side I used the twine to string a row of skulls. I left the page blank so my daughter could add a little journaling and write down her favorite memories of the day.

I threaded one piece of twine from the front side of the page and tied a bow, and I threaded a second piece of twine through the back to tie in a bow. I made sure to run the second piece (from the front) through all the eye holes so the skulls would lay flat.
I added another cute button twine bow to the end of the sentiment tag on this page. I tucked a few die cut leaves underneath.
I wrapped Mandarin twine around my fingers to form a circle and then adhered them to the page to make this loopy embellishment. A few die cut pumpkins and a star stick pin make this magical!  The pumpkins look great in white or orange!

Another blank page for journaling.  The cute kitty is from the Top Dog Die Pocket Page Halloween die set.

End of the road for this book... getting mooned by a scarecrow!  How silly!

I hope you enjoyed this fun book and that you got some ideas for how to add Twinery Twine to your layouts to make them extra special!

Sunshine & Unicorns

TYIC#28 - Fly A Kite

So do you love tags?  You know I do!  A new challenge begins at Tag You're It today!  Our muse this time is Jen Mitchell with this little cutie!  The first thing I do when I see the challenge photo is give it a good once over... what do I love about it..

Well I think that bear is adorable - isn't it colored beautifully?  Then I focused on the balloons and the twine... and last the neat way she added the sentiment on that double ended banner.

Sometimes it's easy to see how the inspiration photo influenced me, other times not so much.  I always want to make something similar, but different enough so that it can hold it's own.

So here's how I stayed the same... Balloons fly, so do kites and I colored my image and kept it in bright colors just like Jen.

I added some sparkly sequins and a die cut inlaid sentiment.
Now it's your turn!   What will you make? Something similar or something differnet?  You can spin it any way you like!  We can't wait to see your designs linked up - and you can see more samples from the design team to get you motivated here at Tag You're It Challenge.
