Serendipity Stamps Blog Challenge - Scor Pal Project

Hello!  Hope everyone is having a fab week!  I'm enjoying the silence after a busy weekend.  Today I've got a neat project featuring Serendipity Stamps.  Mary is always trying to keep the design team on their toes and this time she challenged us to create a Scor Pal project.  She's even going to give away her old - gently used  Scor It to one lucky winner randomly chosen from the DT blogs!  So LEAVE A COMMENT!!   Oh and the sale this week?  Free Shipping for all US orders over $10 from October 3 - 10.

For inspiration she directed us to the Scor Pal web site to pick a project.  Since it's October I'm thinking Halloween and I'm always craving chocolate so I thought a candy bar wrap was just the thing for me.  I hope it stays around long enough for me to give away to my sister - I know she will love this! 

You don't need a Scor Pal to try one of these projects - I have a Martha Stewart score board I picked up at Michael's.  My candy bar was a little bigger than this design was meant for - but after I made one with scrap paper it was easy to adjust the template to the bigger size bar.  (Go figure - I thought everything was getting smaller!).   I dressed up the outside with a bow and and easy to color nostalgic image of some trick or treaters!  I like how the fancy oval frame has little stars - they look like they were just meant for the little cowboy on the left!   

Here's a close up of the inside of the candy wrapper. I fussy cut the ghost and used pop dots to adhere him to the trick or treat sentiment.

And here is the finished package ready to give.   I added a little tulle to the end - to make it a little fancier.  A whole spool is really inexpensive (about $6 for a 6" roll that is 120 feet long) and you only need a little to make an impression.  I used about 10 inches, zig zag folded it and then folded that in half like a fan and then tucked it into the end of the bow.

Tuesday Morning Sketches

Well, just thought I'd catch you up on the weekend "happenings".  My daughter did make it to the moon party, which turns out is a Chinese Harvest festival.  The "moon cakes" I was drooling over turned out to be an acquired taste - apparently they are made of bean paste and have an egg yolk in the center.  Good for her to experience, but obviously not the American "cake" as we know it!  I am hoping for some photos soon to show you from the big Sweet 16 party my son attended.  I can't think of a good way to describe it.  It had many elements of a traditional Quinceanera including a gift of her last doll to symbolize the change from childhood into adulthood,  and waltz.  In addition it reminded me of a formal wedding .  The birthday girl had her own beautiful dress, and was surrounded by a small group of young men and women who wore matching colors (dresses for the girls, and vest and tie for the boys).  There was a family style dinner with the birthday "party" at the head of the room and lots of dancing and music provided by a DJ all night!  They even had a mariachi band, and a formal photographer who I am hoping will be the source of my great photos as I did keep my distance.  Here's a photo of my son before he left the house.  He's a tall drink of water!  All that running is keeping him tall and thin!

Today I'm playing along with the Tuesday Morning Sketches Challenge.  We are going through an "Indian Summer" here.  The past few nights have been so cold you could see your breath.  Today it is summer all over again.  I threw on some shorts and plan to soak in as many rays as I can.  It is strange because although it is really warm out there is a constant shower of leaves raining over my head!   I am sure within a few days it will be back to normal!  Might was well let the stinker binker chase some chipmunks and get some exercise as she is confined to the yard for a while!

I decided to make a Christmas card with a new stamp from Serendipity featuring snow shovels leaning against a house.  This will be a common site at my house as perhaps your own soon I expect!  We have a snow blower but usually wind up going back to the good ole shovels.  I love the snow and the work isn't bad.

Welcome October!

Fall is in full swing here in the Midwest! The streets are scattered with colorful leaves that fly in all different directions when you drive by and crunch under your feet when you're walking. Some of my favorite things about fall... the clean crisp air, and that crunch... seriously! Lots of great memories of leaf fights - throwing giant hand fulls at each other, and still nothing like jumping into a mountain of them! I do hate raking them all up and dragging them to the curb to get vacuumed up - but everything else in between is alright with me!

I've been working my way through this set of oval months by Serendipity Stamps. They are beautifully rendered and really a breeze to color. I love that each month depicts images appropriately suited to that particular month. October is no exception adorned with pumpkins and pretty fall leaves. I colored mine up with Copic markers, fussy cut it and then layered it with a label die on some colorful strips of paper. I cut the label die in half because it wasn't long enough to peek out of both sides of he oval image. The bow is button twine topped with a die cut leaf from Spellbinders Fall Foliage (yes it's a new one!). I think this would be a beautiful October birthday card, or just a great excuse to drop someone a line!
