Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge 75 - Christmas Poinsettia Place Cards

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend.  We got so much packed in that to me it felt like a whole week!  I'm glad to be out of the kitchen and back in my crafty room having some fun!  Leave it to Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge to think of everything you need for the holidays!  We've had sketches for cards, tags, and now place cards!  If you'd like to play along you can get all the details here:  http://waltzingmousesketchchallenge.blogspot.com/2011/11/challenge-75november-26-2011.html

                                                                 Seeing the sketch design brought back special memories for me.  My family has been putting place cards on the table for as long as I can remember now.  Every Christmas I pull out my Lenox Holiday china, flatware, and linens to set the table.   To keep the kids busy when I was cooking I would ask them to create some fabulous place cards to put on the table.  I would praise them for their lovely art work and penmanship and ability to spell every guest's name correctly.  It was always special for me to see a card with "mom" written in their handwriting at my place.  In fact my mom and other guests would be so pleased with these special  projects that they would take them home. 

Now, my daughter is in college, and my son is in high school and they aren't so interested in helping out mom around the holidays.  That's ok - we still find special things to do together, but now the place cards are mine to make.  And if their nice enough, maybe a guest or two will take them home : ) !!     

I double cut the poinsettia leaving off a few petals to keep the size down, colored white pearls with Copic YR12  for the flower centers, added some tiny jingle bells in a jump ring on the bow, and made a multi loop peg bow to finish this place card up.  I hope you are playing along!  I'm looking forward to seeing all the different place cards!

WMSC74 - November 11-19-11 - Be Good

Hi!  I hope everyone had a great weekend.  We did a little yard work - raking leaves, and putting away anything that can't withstand the cold weather that's coming.  Sunday was our lazy day watching DVD's and eating fast food.  This week will be a busy one with the Thanksgiving holiday so any crafting I plan on getting done will have to be done soon.  I got all my grocery shopping done today - tomorrow is house cleaning.  I won't have my daughter around to help - all her friends are coming home from school for the holiday and I expect she'll want to spend her free time with them.

I'm getting an early start on the Waltzingmouse sketch challenge this week.  I told you sometimes sketches talk to me.  This one said "TAG".  I love Christmas because it's a great excuse to put extra bling and sparkle on almost anything.  I don't work too much with glitter and working on this tag I figured out why........ IT'S MESSY!!!!!!  I have glitter everywhere!!! Even on my ink pad!! It took me a while to figure out why my stamped images have spots missing.  What a mess!   Maybe if I do it more often I'll figure out a better way to do it.  For now the glitter is back on the shelf!

WMSC #73 - My Dear

Well it appears I am running behind on most things this week - I don't know why - I guess that's just how it goes sometimes.  I missed out on the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge last week and for sure didn't want to miss out this week.  Sometimes the sketch immediately talks to me, sometimes I have to kick it around in my head a while.  This one took me a while.  I knew immediately that I would be putting a cameo in the circle but the rest of the design eluded me for a while.  

To get the scrunched ribbon look I wrapped seam binding around the card three times and then tied it together with string in the middle under the cameo.  To make the rosette/yo-yo I weaved the same seam binding into the lace ribbon and then pulled it to the right size - I wanted the melon seam binding to frame the cameo.  You know I had to get my touch of bling in there so I added a few glass beads onto the tag strings.  I used Versamagic chalk ink to get full coverage on these solid stamps.  I like how the vintage cameo and tag look with the bright colors.
