Fusion - Honeycomb Birthday Cake

Did you know the most popular card people send is a birthday card? They come in all shapes and sizes and always bring a smile to recipients! :P
I've told you this before.. I love to play card challenges that I find on line! It's always fun to see the different ways people interpret the sketch or photo. I'm playing along with the new Fusion Card Challenge that begins today. It's a great way to find inspiration and to challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone. Here's a peek in case you want to play along too!
I was immediately drawn to the clean cake, the honeycomb pattern and Swoon! The GOLD! But how to turn this into a card?
There is lots of white in the inspiration photo so I started by cutting the Honeycomb Curve from a piece of white card stock. I inked a smaller panel with ombre shades of distress ink to fit behind the open die cut panel.
I cut the Frosted Cake die from white card stock. I set the cake pieces aside and used a cosmetic brush to apply ink to the frosting.
I assembled the cake and adhered it to the assembled card base. I adhered the top layer of the cake with adhesive foam tape to add some dimension.
The finishing touch is the GOLD! I cut the Musical Happy Birthday from gold foil and gold glitter paper. I stacked the two for lots of sparkle and shine. Why the Musical Happy Birthday? Because if it's your birthday, and I'm calling you, I'll be singing!
Yum right? I challenged myself to use colors and die cuts that I wouldn't normally use together and WOW! I'm delighted with the end result! What will you make today? I hope you'll join me at Fusion Card Challenge!
