CASE Study #174 - Love You More

Finally things are getting back to normal here. The kids are back at school and I'm getting used to their new schedules. My DH took the Christmas lights off the house last weekend when we got a warmer day - now I have to get working on the inside. Yes I still have Christmas tree's up! Don't you? I guess I'd rather craft with my free time than wrap up ornaments! Mostly I guess I don't want to do that big job all by myself.

Ready for a new challenge at CASE Study? I think you're going to like this one! Our muse is the oh so clean and simple Donna Mikasa from Three Umbrellas blog. You know the deal...study the picture, grab what inspires you and run with it! SO what do you see? At first sight I was like... how'd she do that? I learned a lot with this one. I knew immediately that I wasn't going to change this up one bit, I just wanted to figure out how to get this cool look. I started by embossing the laurel heart wreath with clear embossing powder. Next I started distressing - starting in the center of the heart and working my way out with lighter colors. Yes, I will admit I did this part at least 10 times until I as happy with the blending and the shape of the distressed area.

Next.. how to get those little splats of color exactly where I wanted them.  Again I tried lots and lots of different ideas, spray bottle, flicking a paint brush, letting drops fall where they may and making an inky mess of my desk and myself.   Here's what I settled on... first for the color.  I took some rubbing alcohol (it's always on hand to clean up) and added a few drops of the same color distress ink I was working with.  Next.. a wooden skewer - yes you read that right.  I dipped it into the solution I made and touched the tip of the skewer to the paper.  The alcohol dried fast and the skewer gave me the control I was looking for.   So how did it turn out?  You decide...
A sentiment stamped smack dab in the center and a sprinkle of sequins and I'm a happy girl!  Want to see what the rest of the team made for this one?  Just click on their names to hop to their  blog.

The skewer worked great! I have got to try this! Love the beautiful little heart, the pink shading almost gives a halo effect and those perfect blotches! Love this very "artsy" card Jeanne.

Fabulous card. I am most impressed with the inking and the splatters. I am afraid of splatters. Yours are perfect, and I like the idea of controlling them with a skewer. And, you picked the perfect shape and sentiment.
