Jillibean Soup Choosing Colors for Stamped Cards

I love to make cards with Jillibean Soup paper collections and peapod parts, but did you know that they have coordinating stamps for each collection? Today I’m sharing 3 cards that mix stamped and die cut elements from the Garden Harvest Collection.
Stamped images are a great way to personalize your cards for family and friends. They’re even better when they’re perfectly coordinated to match the paper collections.
Matching inks is easy. I use a paper punch to make swatches for all the different inks I own. When I need the perfect color I pull out my swatches and match the stamped ink to the pattern paper.

NOTE: There are many different types of ink available – dye inks that soak into the paper, pigment inks that are thicker and stay on the surface of the paper, and oil base pigment inks like Versafine that are waterproof once they’re dry. For my cards I used all three types of ink. I used a stamping tool with the dye ink so I could repeat stamp to get a solid image. Repeat stamping is not necessary with pigment type inks.

I selected four shades of blue ink to repeat stamp “hello” for an ombre greeting. The blues perfectly match the blues in the background papers for a coordinated look.
Because the Peapod Parts are collection coordinated, they’re perfect for embellishing your customized designs. Jillibean Soup also has lots of toppings (shaker fillers) in so many colors that you’ll be sure to find the right color to make your cards sparkle.
This card has Peapod Parts wreaths adorned with stamped butterflies from the coordinating stamp set. The butterflies are fussy cut and adhered with adhesive foam tape.
This sentiment (also from the stamp set) is inked with a darker shade of navy to match the “Water The Goods” background floral paper. A colored sentiment is unexpected and takes your card making to a whole new level.
I used a Peapod Parts flower to embellish the sentiment tag – they coordinate perfectly because they’re meant to work together.
If you haven’t checked out the paper collection coordinating stamp sets then you’re missing out. The handwritten font sentiments are beautiful and the images match the paper prints seamlessly.

Jillibean Soup Card Layering Tips

Do you love fancy cards with layers of pretty pattern papers and lots of embellishments but just aren’t sure how to get the look? I’m sharing a few tips today to help inspire you to give pattern paper another look.
Layered cards are a great way to use up your pattern paper scraps. Its fun to arrange the pieces to create a background of beautiful prints. I focus on a specific color and then look for prints that include that same color. This card has four pattern papers that each have the same shade of teal. Using papers from the same collection ensures a perfect color match. These papers are from the Jillibean Soup Garden Harvest Collection.
Arrange papers alternating light and dark patterns. The top of this card has a multi butterfly print, the bottom is a teal gingham print. Notice how the dark floral side strip pops against the lighter patterns.
Once your background papers are assembled its time for embellishing. To prevent the floral print pea pod die cuts from competing with the background papers I added a rectangle of the lightest pattern paper print (the reindeer) over the background papers.
This card contains several different pattern prints. Notice how the strips are arranged dark next to light.

A simple border punched strip of solid green card stock along the top helps define the border and separate the prints.
I arrange Peapod Die Cuts on a piece of clear plastic the same size as my card base. This allows me to pick up my arrangement and lay it over different colors/patterns of paper to see what looks best. Contrast is always best. Notice how the soft grey milk can is placed over a darker grey print so it is pops off the page.
Selecting colors that repeat is also helpful in bringing continuity to a design. The red heart on the milk can is repeated in the florals, and the yellow of the sentiment journaling card is repeated in the floral and the butterfly print paper.
You’ll have fun arranging print papers when you look for complimentary colors and remember to contrast dark/solid prints with lighter open prints.

Jillibean Soup - A Card With a View

Hi and thanks for stopping by! Today I'm making a scene card with Jillibean Soup You Make Miso Happy pattern paper and Peapod Parts die cut images.  Cards with scenes are a sweet escape - isn't this a fun neighborhood?
I started by creating the landscape. I chose two shades of green patterned paper for the landscape and some navy blue for the sky. Just a few wavy cuts with scissors creates a rolling landscape.. a perfect suburban setting for the little houses.
Details make all the difference when making a scene. Little leaf Peapod cuts become trees, a doily makes a sunny sky. I even fussy cut a little path to the front door of the home in the forefront.
The houses are added with adhesive foam tape to add dimension to the scene. A little heart helps make it clear that this is a home- not a house. And this card is perfect for welcoming a new neighbor, or to congratulate the new home owner in your life.

I love how the pattern paper scenery adds a touch of whimsy to the design.  I hope you give this a try some time!

Jillibean Soup Cards Made with Shape Shaker Program Stamps

Hi friends! Today and I’m sharing cards made with stamped die cut images using the Jillibean Soup Shape Shaker program dies.
This card was made with the Succulents stamp and die set. The images are easy to work with. Just stamp, color, and cut.
The open window dies make it easy to get a perfect cut every time. I tape the die cut in place over the colored image and then run it through my die cut machine.
I created a simple distress ink background for the succulents and made little pots from colorful cardstock scraps. The sentiment is stamped directly on the inked background panel.
The set even includes little florals to embellish the cacti with!
My second card made with the Ice Cream stamp and die set.
I followed the same technique as the previous card but instead of coloring the ice cream scoops I stamped them with colored ink on colored cardstock.
The set even includes a die for cutting colorful sprinkles. I added a few Jewels to add some yummy shine!
My last card has an ombre pink distress ink background. I left the Call Me telephone uncolored to add a little drama.
I adhered the telephone base directly to the inked panel, and the rotary insert with adhesive foam tape. A little foam adds lots of dimension and brings your images to life.
Have fun making and exploring the possibilities Jillibean Soup Shape Shaker Stamp and Die Sets bring.
