I told you didn't I? LOTS of great challenges to play this month! I'm hoping you have some Poppystamps dies or stamps because this one has lots of possiblitiies - especially with dies. The challenge this month is "So Boss!" You can add hot or dry embossing, or deboss a die.
I saw Jennifer McGuire playing with gold embossing dies the other day so I thought I'd give that a go. I'll be honest, at the time when I saw it I sort of thought to myself... "why not just cut the die from a gold foil". It does seem like a lot of work to cut a die several times and then emboss it several times - you have to keep reapplying the embossing powder to get a thick metallic look. You can see Jennifer's original post here.
So I gave it a go. Yes I won't lie.. it was lots of cutting dies - three times for each die. And yes.. gluing them together was a bit of work (am I sounding lazy?)... and while I find embossing to be magical - I love watching the solid turn to liquid - I didn't like trying to get the mess off my craft matt, or the feel of powder on my desk when it was all put away.
But wow! it really is beautiful isn't it? So while it was lots of extra effort - more than cutting the die from gold foil card stock - it has a much bigger WOW factor doesn't it?
There was NO WAY I was going to try to glue the dots over the "i"'s together or heat emboss them so I added little gold sequins. Is this cheating? I think they look cute!
And while you're at it - hop on over to the challenge to play along - you might just win a few more dies for your stash! You can find the challenge here on the Poppystamps blog. You can always find the challenge easy by clicking on the badge in the right column, or the page tab at the top of the page.Finished Size 4.25 x 5.5"

Looks wonderful, I did this last year on a couple of snowflakes I had die cut and they looked wonderful. But your watercolour behind them makes them even more spectacular. Using sequins or gems for the 'i' dot is a must do. I got sick of searching the carpet for those ever elisive dots.
Jeanne - this may have been extra work, but it really was worth it, your card is fantastic. The colors are so bright and vibrant, and the gold embossing is fantastic. You really nailed this!
WOW what a stunning creation...the gold is simply superb!
I use a funnel tray for embossing nowadays and so dont have to tackle residues of embossing powder
Cheers

I like the sunny color wash with the gold elements! This is pretty!
I saw Jennifer's video also and what a great idea. I really need to try this with some of my dies. Love your gorgeous background with the gold!
