TYIC#55 - Batty Boo! Tag

TGIF!  Are you getting ready for a long holiday weekend?  I think we could all use a rest! LOL!  We go from the lazy days of summer - into the hot and humid dog days - and at the same time we're getting back into our fall routines.  That's a lot to ask isn't it?   Miss Moriko has been waking me up earlier and earlier every day - around 6:30 am lately..  It's good and bad - I get a little break from the heat during our morning walk, but I'm missing my zzzz's.  I think I did a bad thing feeding her first thing in the morning!! LOL!    The funny thing is that on days when I'm up earlier somehow I think I will have a few extra hours and get more done.  It doesn't work that way does it?

A new challenge begins today at Tag You're It!  If you love tags this is the place for you.  I love having a bunch on hand - especially around the holidays as a way to dress up an awkwardly shaped package, or a bag of treats.   And treat time is just around the corner isn't it?  This lovey tag is by our Guest Designer Melissa Bickford.   Here's what I loved about it.. the stamped colorful flowers, - I mean how cute is that flower dotting the "i"???   The pattern paper background backer tag, and that colored strip under the word die.

Sometimes it's hard to see how I was influenced... let me explain.  I repeated lots of elements from Melissa's design - switching up the theme for Halloween.  The flowers are now bats and stars - "smile" is now "boo!".  Instead of a pattern paper backer tag mine is a reptile pattern glitter paper.  Do you see it now?
Now it's your turn!  I can't wait to see what you do with this fun design!   Join us at Tag You're It to see more samples from the design team and link up creations of your own!

RCSFYTT#40 I Love You Tons!

Time to flip over that calendar page!  A new month is beginning today!  It's September!  Doesn't that conjure up all sorts of different thoughts?  Back to School, FALL or YIKES.. how many days until Christmas?

And you're going to want to jot a little note to yourself.. there's some fun new challenges that you're going to want to play too!  Like the Reverse Confetti Sketch For You To Try!   If you love a sketch challenge this is the one for you.  It's a good way to play with some of your pattern papers and have fun doing a little mixing and matching!  I know it wouldn't to win a little prize either right?

You can always find the current sketch on the Reverse Confetti Blog by clicking the badge in the right column.

I'm playing with the Coffee & You set that came out last month!  I think this is my favorite set from the new release.  The elephant with his little mice friends complete with bitty coffee cups and donuts is just too darn cute!  I love the sentiments too!
I used lots of Confetti Cuts on this one too.  The sketch had lots of straight lines.  I though I'd soften them up by adding some scallops to the edges.   I double cut the Scallop Border along the bottom - the solid black card stock peeking out helps define the shape a little better.

I wanted to fussy up the horizontal strips too so I used some Confetti Cuts to add the flag shape to the edges.    I die cut just the edge of the large pink gingham panel with the tag from the layered banner duo.  I just ran about an inch through the die cut machine so I could keep it long.  The Love Note Confetti Cut is the scalloped rectangle behind the elephant.

I hope you find some time to play along!  And don't forget to stop back.. I'll be showing peeks of the new Reverse Confetti release starting on September 5.

Poppystamps Challenge - Faux Metallic Birthday Wishes

I told you didn't I?  LOTS of great challenges to play this month!   I'm hoping you have some Poppystamps dies or stamps because this one has lots of possiblitiies - especially with dies.   The challenge this month is "So Boss!"  You can add hot or dry embossing, or deboss a die.

I saw Jennifer McGuire playing with gold embossing dies the other day so I thought I'd give that a go.  I'll be honest, at the time when I saw it I sort of thought to myself... "why not just cut the die from a gold foil".  It does seem like a lot of work to cut a die several times and then emboss it several times - you have to keep reapplying the embossing powder to get a thick metallic look.  You can see Jennifer's original post here.

So I gave it a go.  Yes I won't lie.. it was lots of cutting dies - three times for each die.  And yes.. gluing them together was a bit of work (am I sounding lazy?)... and while I find embossing to be magical - I love watching the solid turn to liquid - I didn't like trying to get the mess off my craft matt, or the feel of powder on my desk when it was all put away.
But wow!  it really is beautiful isn't it?   So while it was lots of extra effort - more than cutting the die from gold foil card stock - it has a much bigger WOW factor doesn't it?
There was NO WAY I was going to try to glue the dots over the "i"'s together or heat emboss them so I added little gold sequins.  Is this cheating?  I think they look cute!

Maybe you want to try this for yourself?  It's a cool way to get a new look with your favorite dies.

And while you're at it - hop on over to the challenge to play along - you might just win a few more dies for your stash!   You can find the challenge here on the Poppystamps blog.  You can always find the challenge easy by clicking on the badge in the right column, or the page tab at the top of the page.
