Paper Sweeties - October Release Sneak Peek

Fall is in the air!  The weather is getting a little cooler, and I'm starting to bake again.  So Norman Rockwell... fresh baked cookies when everyone gets home!  And Wow!  What a show mother nature is putting on!!   So much color everywhere!  Road side farm stands are popping up all over with heaps of pumpkins and gourds in all different colors!  I'm hoping I make it to one of the corn mazes I've seen advertised too!  So much abundance everywhere!  Even my mums are showing off all their color!
Today I get the pleasure of giving you a preview of some of the new stamps Paper Sweeties is releasing on October 15.  In addition to some adorable Thanksgiving / Fall themed outfits and accessories for the Paper Sweeties, Debbie has packed these sets with beautiful sentiments.  I used this fall verse for my card today.  It is a wonderful reminder to take the time to appreciate the NOW.   I inked up lots of pretty fall foliage and let the sentiment do all the talking!
I hope you'll check out more of the October release sneak peeks by the Paper Sweeties Design Team.  You can click on their names below to jump to their blogs!

12 Kits of Christmas - September Edition

Are you ready for another edition of the 12 Kits of Christmas?  Just to refresh your memory, the group consists of 12 designers.  Each month one member of the group provides paper crafting supplies to the remaing 11.  We all receive the same supplies to work with and then post our creations on the same day.   It is fun to see how we all use the products differently.

Our hostess this month is Kara from K & R Designs.  Kara's style is really the opposite of mine.  She has a clean style and lets the elements shine without a whole lot of other distractions.  Still she threw in enough bling and embellishments to keep a fussy girl like me happy!  Check out this goodie bag full of My Mind's Eye Paper, felt die cut pennants, wine, ribbon, brads and bling!  She even took things in a new direction this month - she gave us everything we needed to create a little holiday planner to help keep us organized in the coming months!

I fell in love with the sweet birds with the party hats and had to make one the center of attention on my planner.  The twine wraps around the back and wraps around the layered buttons to close.  I added a die cut gold leaf flourish to perch this little sparrow in.
Well, I hope you liked them - but honestly you ain't seen nothin' yet!! Why not check out what the other members of the 12 Kits of Christmas came up with this month. You can jump to their blog by clicking on their names below (listed by month).

WMSC117 - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Happy Saturday!  I hope everyone had a good week and has some fun planned.  Today is the big sweet 16 party my son is going to.  I'm tempted to sneak in so I can watch!!  I know, I know... I will be good and keep at a distance so I don't embarrass him!!  My daughter is going to the "Moon Fesitval" at school.  It is a cultural event featuring Chinese  food like "moon cakes" and entertainment.  I'm tempted to sneak in there too!!  I need to get out more don't I?  Maybe I can talk DH into going out for dinner!  I can get my own "cultural" food at my favorite Thai restaurant!!

Enough day dreaming... time to give you a peek of the new sketch for this weeks Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge!  The design this week is by WM DT member and original Gingham Girl...Kelly Schirmer!!   Not only is Kelly a creative force to be reckoned with but she is also notorious for leaving enthusiastic comments wherever she goes!  She never fails to make me smile and I can't see gingham without thinking of her!

Well, nothing new here, I think I'm behind again with the Waltzingmouse Christmas Card Challenge.  Good thing it's never too late to enter for previous months challenges.  I am entering this one in the August challenge (see I'm not too far behind!!).  The challenge is to make a card that incorporates a phrase from a Christmas  song.  When I saw the "good" "bad"  list on my pattern paper I started thinking.. "he's making a list, he's checking it twice"

This was a really fun card to make.  I was really drawn to the red and blue.  The biggest challenge was lining up the snowflakes and hearts on the border, but honest, that stamp a ma jig has done wonders for me!  One of those "what took me so long" moments!  I got mine at Joann and used a 40% off coupon!
I hope you like it and hope you find some time to play!  Who knows... you might just win a free set of stamps - and who wouldn't like that?

Have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday Sweet 16!

My son is attending one of those "over the top" Sweet 16 parties this weekend.  He's been going to rehearsals to learn how to Waltz, and will be wearing a vest and bow tie with his suit selected by the birthday girl.  So of course I wanted to make an "over the top" birthday card for the young lady.  The Waltzingmouse "You're Lovely" set seemed like the logical choice!  I revisited an older card I made in grey, teal and yellow and remade it in different shades of pink - to match the invitation she sent.
I stamped the frame in Momento London Fog, and then masked it.  Then I stamped the dress in the window.  Next, I stamped the dress in Stampin' Up! Pink Pirouette on pink patterned paper twice and fussy cut it.  The first cut is glued directly on the tag, and the second is slightly higher on pop dots. Here's the finished card..
I hope she likes it... and here is a flash back to the original ..

Thanks for having a look!

Tuesday Throwdown #117 - Fall Quails

Seems like time is flying for me lately -so many things to do... so little time.  Thanks for all your well wishes this week for my son Roger.  He had a good meet on Saturday and came in 6th for his cross country team - so he has placed the varsity team.  Looks like one of those expensive letter jackets is in his near future!
He's attending a big, over the top, sweet 16 party this weekend and I've had to do a little running around getting him to practice.  He is included in a group of teenagers who will be doing a waltz.  They will be wearing matching ties and vests with their suits, so I had to get him fitted for that as well.  Can you believe he even went so far as to ASK for a haircut? I thought I was in a dream for a minute!   First a Waltz??? and then ... gasp... a hair cut?

We've also been doing some work in the yard - my daughter and I tackled a Wisteria I bought years ago... it has never bloomed but I thought the vines on the side of the house were romantic and gave some character to the yard.  Well, I learned my lesson - they've made it up to the second floor and are starting to take apart the siding, so drastic measures had to be taken.  While we did that DH and son were placing landscaping blocks for a small fenced area to hide (I mean place) the big giant garbage and recycle bins the town has distributed.

Today I'm playing along with the Tuesday Throwdown.  The theme this week is Fall Color.  My favorite paper for fall has been the Prairie Hill collection by Pink Paislee.  I stamped my image on acetate with Staz on ink.  I wanted to try a new technique vs the traditional coloring of the stamped image.  I took a piece of white card stock and blended 3 colors of Ranger Distress ink into layers to make background. Anya Schrier has a good tutorial for this here.  This was fun and easy to create - and no coloring!
Thanks for having a look - I hope you find some time this week to play along!

Hugs!

WMSC #116 - Lantern

Can you believe it's Saturday already?  It's been a busy week for me!   My hand cramps are recovered from all the zig zag rosettes I made earlier in the week for the Cross Country Senior Night,  and so now its time to play!!  My son has another meet this weekend and he is doing great.  His last 5k he ran in 17:21 !!!  I hope he he does well this weekend too - if he makes Varsity I told him I'd buy him another Letterman's jacket since he is at a new school now.

The sketch this week is by the house mouse/mistress herself....... Ms. Claire Brennan!  This sketch is a great way to show case your favorite Waltzingmouse Stamp!  I just had to ink up the new Bright Season set.  I had fun trying different things like distressed backgrounds, but settled on this clean image stamped on white.  I just loved how my eye kept going back to the clean colors of the flame.   I stamped the flame and rays of light in three different colors and they seem to just pop against the black lantern.

The little tab seems like an obvious place for a sentiment but I actually put a pull tab there instead. I stamped and cut it with the new opera tags on kraft, added a leopard print gem and attached it to a little pull tab with a brad. I think this would be a neat way to insert a little gift card using the "for you" sentiment on the little tab. Here's the finished card
Thanks for having a look.  Make sure you check out the inspiration provided by the other Mischief Makers and perhaps Mrs. B. herself!

Tuesday Morning Sketches #164 - Puppy Love

Happy Fall Y'all!  Mary from Serendipity Stamps just got a new baby!  To congratulate her on this new addition to the family I made this card featuring a stamp called Leaf Pets. I followed the sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches.     I colored up the puppy on the stamp to look like Mary's new baby Suzy!  I kept the little white boots and the stripe down her face.  I liked the sentiment  "Let's be friends forever" to wish Mary years of fun and love with her new girl  I know what a comfort this companion will be to her and her family!  This stamp with the falling leaves is perfect for her new fall puppy!

Thanks for having a look!  If you want to congratulate Mary on her new girl you can pop her an email at serendipity@serendipitystamps.com

Serendipity Blog Challenge - Halloween

It's time for another Serendipity Blog Hop Challenge!  This time is was to make something Halloween!  That is easy to do with the big selection of Halloween Stamps available at Serendipity Stamps.  You can see them here.   The special of the week?  20% off the Halloween category stamps now through September 26.
I made a few quick projects.   The first this simple witch in the window.  The only coloring is the moon.

Next I made a few tags - if you don't have treats you are bound to get tricks so better to be prepared with some goodies on hand!!  For these I simply stamped the images in Momento and colored them up with Copics.  The bows look big and floofy because the ribbon is wired - so you can shape it as you like.
I hope you'll check out the other Halloween inspired projects by the rest of the design team - I know they will be frighteningly fantastic!

Senior Sports Night

Don't you hate when you get thrown into a project at the last minute?  It seems like it's always for school doesn't it?  Well I can't blame this one on my son.    I called to RSVP for the high school cross country senior night and to find out what I could do to help.   There will be a pot luck dinner and each of the boys were asked to bring a small gift for each of the seniors that represents them.  For example a slower boy might bring a turtle candy.

I got charged with getting the bags the kids are putting the gifts in for the seniors.  It was recommended that I get brown grocery store bags and just write the kids names on them.  Well I thought I could do a little better than that, considering I am a paper crafting goddess right?  HAHA!!  I went to the dollar store to search for large plain white or blue bags (our school colors).  There were none to be found so I detoured across the street to Walmart.  Yes, they had big blue bags with handles, but they were $5 each and pretty flimsy.  I started getting bummed when I walked past these reusable shopping bags in the perfect shade of blue - and what a deal at 50 cents each!!  The only problem - that big corporate logo on the front.

Well since I had to make a name tag anyway.... I figured why not make it big and sporty thus the pennant.  I cut them out quick and easy on my Cricut - the hardest part was the size.  I had to use my 12 x 24" cutting sheet and I used poster board for my paper. I wanted it them to be strong enough to hold up for the night.  Here's the finished project.
Oh, and those neat rosettes at the top of the page - those are getting tucked into bud vases (my other assignment).  Don't ask me how many I made - my hand may never straighten out!!  Good thing I'm a mom and I can do anything!  Gosh... I just hope I don't embarrass my son!!  Oh well!!

Hugs!

Waltzingmouse September Blog Party! Fall Blessings

Have you been counting down the days?  I know I have.  One of my favorite things about Waltzingmouse Stamps is the Blog Party on the 17th.    This is always great fun for me. I love to see what everyone makes with their favorite WM stamps.  I've come to know some of the "regulars" who play every month and know without a doubt they will be putting out creations nothing short of AMAZING!!  The theme this month is fall and although I went for the predictable fall set I did try to spice it up a bit with my colors - like this satiny purple bow.  I topped off the bow with a die cut leaf stamped with houndstooth, and some stacked buttons topped with a gem.

I will keep this short because I know you have lots of hopping to do.  I embossed my base with a pattern that reminds me of sunflowers (my favorite fall flower), and topped that with some burlap for texture.    I like the rough contrast with the smooth shiny bow.
I hope you have time to play along this month, just think of all the Thanksgiving inspiration you'll find here today!  You can see the inks to all the other blogs participating here.

Enjoy!
