SSCB#15 Postage Stamp Inspired

Looking for a fun challenge?  You might find this one interesting!  Serendipity Stamps hosts a challenge blog twice a month and offers up a chance to win some free goodies to add to your collection.  Some times Mary is a little trixie and tries to keep us on our toes and get us out of our comfort zones.   The challenge this week is to be inspired by a postage stamp.  How cool is that?  Whenever I go to the post office I always have to see what stamps they have before I select the ones I want.  I  know some people are perfectly fine with an American flag every single time but there are so many neat stamps commemorating everything from vintage seed packets to the man in black (Johnny Cash), and each one is a work of art.   I've even added postage stamps to scrapbook pages as embellishments - a Bison and Old Faithful for a page to preserve a visit  to Yellowstone, and a Raven stamp that reminds me of a Fish Crow that I named Poe that I met at breakfast on vacation in Hilton Head.   You can find lots of inspiring US Postage stamps here.
Tiffany Lamp Stamp (1¢)

Can you tell which stamp inspired me from the close up?  It's
the 1-cent Tiffany Lamp stamp.   It was released in 2008  and features artist Lou Nolan’s rendering of a Tiffany lamp. Nolan evokes the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), a designer of glass, ceramics, jewelry, enamelware, and metalwork who transformed everyday objects into works of art.  Tiffany’s stained-glass lampshades glow with soft, colorful light. Considered one of the greatest designers of glass in his era, Tiffany is also remembered as a leader in the art nouveau movement

Well how did I do?  I tried to get the glowing effect of the lamp color and a little shine on the base by shading with Copic markers.  I kept the background dark and clean like the stamp image and integrated a stamp die cut for my sentiment.

For more inspiration see what the rest of the design team created!

Is there a gorgeous stamp somewhere in your desk that you've set to the side because its too pretty to use?   Time to dig it out and let it inspire you!  I hope you will join us at the Serendipity Stamps Challenge Blog - it's going to be fun!!

  8. Wow, Jeanne--this is amazing! It reminds me of one of those pictures that you look at it one way & see one design and then look again & see another. I thought it was a elegant frame before I even saw the postage die. Love the pp and your beautifully colored lamp!
